Word Guess — 5-Letter Word Puzzle in Your Browser

Word Guess is a free 5-letter word-guessing puzzle that runs entirely in your browser. A random hidden word is chosen from a curated list of common English words, and your job is to figure out what it is within six attempts. After each guess, the letter tiles change color to tell you how close you are — green for a perfect match, yellow for a letter that exists but belongs elsewhere, and gray for a letter that is not in the word at all.

The game rewards logical deduction and vocabulary. Use the color feedback from earlier guesses to narrow down possibilities row by row. The on-screen keyboard shows the accumulated state of every letter you have tried, giving you a visual summary at a glance. You can also type directly on your physical keyboard — letters to build your guess, Enter to submit, and Backspace to delete. Each new game picks a fresh random target word so you can play as many rounds as you like.

How to play

  1. 1The game picks a secret 5-letter word. Type any 5-letter word as your first guess and press Enter (or tap the ENTER key on screen).
  2. 2After submitting, each letter tile flips to reveal a color: GREEN means the letter is in the correct position.
  3. 3YELLOW means the letter is in the secret word but you have placed it in the wrong position — try it somewhere else.
  4. 4GRAY means the letter does not appear in the secret word at all — remove it from your thinking.
  5. 5Use the color clues to refine your next guess. You have 6 attempts in total. Guess the word to win; run out of tries and the answer is revealed.

Frequently asked questions

Is Word Guess free to play?
Yes, completely free. There are no charges, no premium tiers, no ads you must watch, and no in-app purchases. Open the page and start playing.
Do I need to download anything or create an account?
No. The game runs entirely in your browser with no download and no sign-up required. Just visit the page and play immediately.
How does the color system work exactly?
Green means the letter is the right letter in the right position. Yellow means the letter is somewhere in the word but not where you placed it. Gray means the letter does not appear in the word at all. Duplicate letters are handled correctly — if the word has one 'E' and you guess two 'E's, only one will be marked green or yellow; the extra one will be gray.
What is a good strategy for your first guess?
Start with a word that contains several common vowels and frequent consonants — something like ARISE, AUDIO, RATES, or OUTRE. Covering A, E, I, O, R, S, and T early gives you maximum information from the color feedback and helps you narrow the hidden word quickly in later rows.
