Overview

GPA Calculator: compute your weighted grade point average instantly

This GPA calculator computes your weighted grade point average from a list of courses, each with a letter grade and credit hours. It supports all standard letter grades on the 4.0 scale โ€” A+/A (4.0), A- (3.7), B+ (3.3), B (3.0), B- (2.7), C+ (2.3), C (2.0), C- (1.7), D+ (1.3), D (1.0), and F (0.0). Add as many courses as you need, remove any row you do not want, and the weighted GPA updates instantly as you make changes.

Weighted GPA is calculated as the sum of (grade points ร— credits) for all courses, divided by the total credits. This means a 4-credit course has more influence on your GPA than a 1-credit course, which accurately reflects how most colleges and universities compute semester and cumulative GPA. The tool also shows total credits earned and total quality/grade points, and displays a progress bar on the 0โ€“4.0 scale so you can see at a glance where you stand.

How to use it

  1. 1Each row represents one course. You can optionally type a course name for your own reference โ€” it does not affect the calculation.
  2. 2Select the letter grade you received (or expect to receive) from the dropdown: A+ through F.
  3. 3Enter the number of credit hours for that course. Most lecture courses are 3 credits; labs are often 1โ€“2.
  4. 4Click "Add course" to add more rows, or click the ร— button on any row to remove it. The weighted GPA and totals update live.

Frequently asked questions

Is this GPA calculator free?
Yes โ€” it is completely free, requires no sign-up or account, and every calculation runs locally in your browser. No data is stored or sent to any server.
What GPA scale does this calculator use?
It uses the standard 4.0 scale common at most US colleges and universities: A+/A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, F = 0.0. Some schools use a different scale or add extra points for honors or AP courses โ€” check your institution's official policy if you need an exact match.
What is the difference between semester GPA and cumulative GPA?
Semester GPA uses only the courses from a single semester. Cumulative GPA covers all courses taken across all semesters. To calculate your cumulative GPA, enter all of your courses (from every semester) into the calculator โ€” the weighted formula automatically accounts for varying credit loads.
How much will one grade change my GPA?
It depends on the credit weight of the course and your current total credits. A single grade in a 3-credit course has less effect when you have 60 total credits behind you than when you only have 12. The easiest way to find out is to change the grade in the row and watch the GPA update live.
