Overview

Unit Price Calculator โ€” Compare Costs & Convert Measurements

The Unit Price Calculator on sourcecodestack handles four related problems in one place: figuring out how much of something you can buy for a given budget, calculating the normalised price per base unit, converting between measurement units, and comparing the true per-unit cost of different products. All calculations run locally in your browser โ€” nothing is sent to a server.

The tool covers five unit categories โ€” weight, volume, length, area, and energy โ€” and supports over 20 currencies with their symbols and flags. Quick Presets pre-fill real-world examples like petrol price per litre, milk, rice, electricity per kWh, and fabric per metre, so you can verify the tool against familiar numbers before entering your own.

Frequently asked questions

What does the "How much can I buy" mode calculate?
It divides your target spend by the item price to tell you exactly how many units you get. For example, if petrol costs 100 per litre and your budget is 500, the result is 5 litres.
How does the price comparison work?
Each item's price is divided by its quantity converted to the category base unit, producing a normalised cost per base unit. The item with the lowest cost per base unit is labelled Best Value.
Does the currency conversion use live exchange rates?
No. The currency selector only labels the unit of your input price โ€” it does not convert between currencies. Both prices in a comparison should be entered in the same currency for a valid result.
Can I compare more than two items?
Yes. In Compare prices mode, click Add Item to add as many products as you like. The Best Value label moves automatically to whichever item has the lowest normalised price.
